Family owned Australian Architectural Fire Doors Pty Ltd is a Brisbane based, fire door and metal frame manufacturer.
AAFD’s new website details Australian Architectural Fire Doors proud history and service in the domestic and commercial markets, details their product range and features a portfolio of some of the major commercial products they have serviced and supplied.
Content Management and site build
Propeller built the new AAFD website using the ExpressionEngine2 CMS as used by multinationals such as Adobe, Sony, Apple, the BBC and many others.
ExpressionEngine2 is an enterprise class CMS providing huge flexibility and control both over the design and workings of the website in addition to providing developers and thus clients with a highly customisable administration panel.
Each website’s user interface can be carefully crafted, providing content administrators with a straightforward and easy-to-use means of managing the website’s content.
As most of the content included in the AAFD site is static in nature, we opted to work with ExpressionEngine’s Structure module. Structure differs from the normal ExpressionEngine workflow in that ‘pages’ are displayed in a single-page, tree-menu hierarchy. Main and ‘child’ pages can be drag and drop rearranged with the Structure-driven navigation automatically updating on the website.
Although Structure may not be suitable for larger or more dynamic websites, it is perfect for this kind of website, making administration of the website a breeze.
As with other ExpressionEngine websites we’ve included Pixel & Tonic’s ‘Assets’ extension which, along with Expresso, a WYSIWYG editor, we have provided a seamless, user-friendly environment for non-technical and expert users alike to manage the website. Other extensions crop and resize images on the fly for the site’s banner slideshow, portfolio and product galleries, taking the work out of preparing and uploading images for website administrators. Additionally, a custom field combined with the Antenna extension makes including videos as easy as copying and pasting in the YouTube or Vimeo URL.
Other niceties such as displaying the websites’ Google Analytics data in the administration panel saves the client from having to leave the website or remember another login whilst a Sitemap module integrates well with AAFD’s Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools accounts to ensure that search engine indexes are kept up to date with the website’s content.
