RSS

Otherwise known as a feed or channel RSS is a format for delivering web content. RSS is used by many news-related sites or blogs and if you scroll up to the right, you’ll see the familiar icon which denotes the link to Propeller’s ‘News’ feed.

Given that some form of news section or blog is commonplace on most modern websites, Shopify has always provided a limited support for blogs. Although Shopify does not currently support archiving of articles as you would find in a dedicated CMS or blogging application such as Wordpress, the introduction of pagination, allowing blogs to be spread across multiple pages has improved the display of articles dramatically.

Adding a further feature, Shopify blogs now have their own feed allowing subscribers to keep in touch with their favourite site’s activities and news.

In order to fully harness the power of this new feature, Shopify store owners should make sure to let site visitors know that an RSS feed is available – most modern browsers will auto-detect the feed but the majority of casual computer users may not notice it or even know what it is.

What you feed people (pardon the pun) can also impact on whether or not they return to your site – introducing new products is a great way of highlighting fresh introductions but we wouldn’t recommend this being the only thing you blog about – provide some useful information and guide to your products or services and your visitors may keep coming back!

And if you haven’t already done so, make sure to subscribe to Propeller’s RSS feed to keep up to date with all the latest web, email and marketing news.
