Following hot on the heels of Elephant Rose, the Shopify team have featured another Propeller-powered Shopify store as their ‘Shop of the Moment’".
Having designed the original single page Productive Gardens site well over a year ago, we knew we would be able to create another big hit when David Borthwick of Productive Gardens asked us to port his design to a fully functional Shopify store.
Sticking with the original design we were able to create a stunning store – art in itself whilst at the same time taking advantage of the new Shopify ‘Showroom’ API to build in exciting new AJAX technology. Having the cart available as a pop-up at the bottom of all pages and harnessing the lightbox feature to display full product information on-screen rather than moving to a separate page, makes for a seamless experience.
Testament to the stores excellent product range and obvious ease of use – Productive Gardens received their first order within their first week of operation!
The beauty of the design is that in browsers where implementing the advanced functionality (namely IE6), is buggy or impossible or where the user may have javascript disabled; the site falls back to the usual page by page browsing environment – ensuring access to all.
Obviously this new functionality has its place and is not appropriate or suitable for all sites though we’ll be implementing the new API or at the very least demonstrating it for all new site designs.
