It's time to upgrade to Craft Pro 4
Craft 3 brought many improvements and truly modernised Craft, revamped the structure of the system, and provided a noticeable speed bump, but if your site is still running Craft 3 there’s a looming issue - from April 30 2024 there will be no more security updates.
Pixel & Tonic stopped supporting Craft 3 on April 30, 2023, providing no new features or improvements. That may be fine if you’re comfortable with your site as-is, but the important issue is security. Craft 3 will stop receiving critical security updates on April 30, 2024. If a security vulnerability is found in Craft 3, a plugin, or an older version of PHP, your site could be vulnerable hackers and malware.
Craft 4 improves upon an already great content management system. In addition to the security benefits of using the latest version, you’ll also benefit from performance and accessibility improvements and a nicer user experience.
Craft 5 Is Coming
Pixel & Tonic have now released the Craft 5 Beta for developers to test and get their plugins ready.
We'll cover Craft 5 nearer the release date but for now some of the highlights include a lighter, crisper, friendlier control panel, improved entry type icons and colours, action menus, inline editing, 2 Factor Authentication and Passkeys to improve security, matrix-in-matrix or nested matrix fields, nested entries in CKEditor, and a huge list of other improvements. P&T expect to launch a stable version of Craft 5 late March.
How Do I Upgrade?
If you have a maintenance plan with Propeller, you don't need to do anything - ALL sites maintained by us are running the latest version of Craft Pro 4 and associated plugins and will be upgraded to Craft Pro 5 in turn and as satisfactory stable versions are released.
All other clents should contact us asap to have their Craft 3 sites upgraded. There will be no upgrade route from Craft 3 to Craft 5 - these will be treated as separate upgrades - and no support will be available from Pixel & Tonic after April 30 should issues occur with a Craft 3 upgrade.
