Use uppercase (capitalised) text judiciously

I don’t normally re-post articles regarding website data-entry and styling but I find myself having to re-iterate warnings against the over-use of uppercase or block-caps to clients continually, so this article from Roger Johansson, one of the web’s foremost authorities on accessibility issues, was nicely timed.

Typekit - bring forth the fonts

Not many people realise it but websites have traditionally been bound by the regular fonts installed on the users computer. Hence until recently web designers have been restricted to a rather small list of around 8-10 fonts which can reasonably be expected to be present on most users’ machines.

Boat Style

Our latest logo creation is for Boat Style, an online store that supplies luxury interior appointments, soft furnishings and accessories for boats. The brief was to create a sleek, contemporary logo which could be used in different colours or styles across a range of media from printed stationery and tags, online and on a large scale screen printed onto sails and banners.

At last years Web Directions South conference (Australia’s largest web industry conference), it was announced that the 2009 McFarlane Prize would be commemorated by producing a beautiful, high quality hardcover book containing all 48 of the shortlisted entires and last week the eagerly awaited book arrived.
